Keywords
and other meta tags!
Meta
tags are unseen areas where important information is stored on a web
page.
The
first meta tag to work on and refine is the "title" tag, because
it is the first thing the search engine registers. The title should
reflect what you do or the service offered, especially if your domain
name does not. An example would be if my domain name was, www.steveminsky.com
and my business is selling race car parts, very few if anyone would
see my site by entering keywords associated with race cars, parts or
racing.
There
are some ways around this dilemma, the first would be to change my domain
name, but I don't want to do that, I'm in love with my name, after all
it's mine and I simply like to see it published where everyone can see
it, (in this case I guess hardly anyone) and another reason not to,
may be the time involved to republish my site under a new name. O.K.
then, the title is the way to go. So my title may be, "A
Race Car Chassis Parts and Stock Car Racing Catalog ",
search engines have different limits on the number of letters including
spaces you can use, I like around sixty.
An important
consideration here is, the Key words in your title are going to be used
in the next meta tag, the "description" tag. This is where
you want to describe what the web page you're viewing is about and this
is where the search engine is looking for relevant key words that exist
in the title. I might describe my site this way. "A
race car and stock car racing and performance parts distributor in Vermont".
The use of quotes and upper case" A", I use in both title
and description tags because of the ASCII, numerical and alphabetical
text order ranking. This might do doodly but it can't hurt.
